Hiking the forest trails of New Zealand inspired this song about the mysterious figure from the Tolkien books, Tom Bombadil. Nobody really knows much about Tom, but we do know that the Ring of Power held no sway over him.

There's a lot of beautiful forest
In the land of the long white cloud
You can walk for days in native bush
From Haast to Doubtful Sound
But if you find yourself closed in
Lost in leaf and bark
There's a man, he is your friend
He masters light and dark.
He is Master of wood and hill.
He is Master of wood and hill.
He is Master of wood and hill.
He is Tom Bombadil
Don't sleep 'neath shade of Old Willow Tree
In the heat of a sunny day.
Don't leave the path of fen and marsh
You're sure to lose your way.
Should you find you're in big trouble
On water or deep hill
With a merry-dol, a ring-a-dol dill
You'll get old Tom Bombadil.
Forest is ancient, he's older still.
Forest is ancient, he's older still.
Forest is ancient, he's older still.
He is Tom Bombadil
Down in the deep dark forest
Where the kauri stand tall
If you leave the trail and you lose your way
There's a Guardian you can call.
Yeah if you find yourself closed in
Lost in leaf and bark
Sing to him, he is your friend
He masters light and dark.
He is Master of wood and hill.
He is Master of wood and hill.
He is Master of wood and hill.
He is Tom Bombadil
Forest is ancient, he's older still.
Forest is ancient, he's older still.
Forest is ancient, he's older still.
He is Tom Bombadil
He is Master of wood and hill (Merry dol, ring-a-dol dill)
Forest is ancient, he's older still (Merry dol, ring-a-dol dill)
Just who he is nobody knows (Merry dol, ring-a-dol dill)
He bows not to Ring of gold. (Merry dol, ring-a-dol dill)
He is Tom Bombadil
