  1. Saskatoon Sue

From the recording Forever Saskatoon

Stan and I had the tequila bottle out late one night, and Stan began telling a story. He was hitchhiking in Saskatchewan to a farm where he had been hired to pick lentils. A woman named Sue from Saskatoon stopped to pick him up and what happened next is clouded by the tequila as the tale was told. But whatever happened was worth a song!

I was hitchin' Western Canada to a job with better pay
When a pickup driving woman stopped and said "Where you headin', eh?"
I said "I'm goin' to Moose Jaw". She said "Hey, come on inside!
Take that pack off your back and let's go for a ride.
I rarely pick up strangers, but you looked like my kinda man".
And with a fiddle-de-dee from Great Big Sea I climbed on in.

Saskatoon Sue, Saskatoon Sue
She won't leave me blue, my Saskatoon Sue
I'd walk across Canada, oh what I'd do
For my Saskatoon Sue

We intertwined our story like a boy and girl will do
Her eyes looking up at me, reflecting Big Sky blue.
She made me feel I was the one, she had a smile I won't forget.
I never got to Moose Jaw, a choice I don't regret

Saskatoon Sue, Saskatoon Sue
She won't leave me blue, my Saskatoon Sue
I'd walk across Canada, oh what I'd do
For my Saskatoon Sue

Now I'm waiting at the airport, grounded in B. C.
That sexy sassy Satchy Sue sure made a mess of me.
My plane's stuck on the tarmac. Now I know what I must do
Looks cold out there, but I don't care, I'm thumbin' on the road to

Saskatoon Sue, Saskatoon Sue
She won't leave me blue, my Saskatoon Sue
I'd walk across Canada, oh what I'd do
For my Saskatoon Sue
I would thumb all the way across Canada just to get to
Forever, my Saskatoon Sue.
