From the recording Forever Saskatoon

One rainy spring day, listening to an East Texas rainshower, I was whining about having to change my plans. I flippantly remarked that at least the trees were happy, and realized there was a song that needed to be written.

Listen to the Rain

This morning I was wondrin' as I brewed my tea
Where would I go, where would I live if I were a tree.
I think I'd choose Milford New Zealand. It rains there every day.
I'd plant my roots, grow some leaves and I would sing.
Listen to the rain.

But what if I were a four-leaf clover, what would I do?
I'd want a home to wet me through and through.
I think I'd choose Ireland. It rains there every day.
I'd plant my roots, grow some leaves and I would sing.

Listen to the rain, listen to the rain.

Before we got together, the sun would never shine on me
Clouds were always dark, but now that you are mine let's plant a tree
December rain is icy, March is cold and blue
I don't mind the rain not as long as I'm with you, yes it's true

Listen to the rain, listen to the rain.
Listen to the rain, listen to the rain.
Listen to the rain, listen to the rain.
Listen to the rain.
