I am fascinated with New Zealand. It is the most beautiful country I have ever seen and the people have a very open diverse culture with environmental stewardship held in high esteem. I was sitting in the sunshine on a huge boulder next to a roaring waterfall along the trail to Lake Marian, thinking about the various forks in the roads that had been encountered during my life. I decided despite all the stressful and painful choices I had made, their outcomes had brought me to this beautiful location and that made the path worthwhile.

Lyrics

On the shores of Manapouri, ten miles from Te Anau
Trading stories with my best friend, the stars were coming out
I drank a beer for the ages, I never had one taste so good
I'd take you there tomorrow if I could.

My life is like a highway, many routes for me to choose
Sometimes cruising on the Motorway, rocking to the Moody Blues
Then soon as I get things figured out, there's a detour up ahead
I often times regretted where it led

Yeah, I've taken curves and valleys, had a crash or two
Now I'm sitting by a Fiordland river, the sun and sky so blue
And all the paths together, with the pain I had to face
Were worth it just to end up at this place

I tip my glass to New Zealand, I'm one with the Southern Cross
Riding on a two lane highway, don't care if I get lost
The road goes ever on and on 'til Milford then it's through
My soul lies in New Zealand, Aotearoa, here's to you

I want to take you to Dunedin where the royal seabirds nest
And sail to Stewart Island where your mind can find some rest
I know a little two lane highway, where we stop is up to you
The beer's on me, how can you lose?

I tip my glass to New Zealand, I'm one with the Southern Cross
Riding on a two lane highway, don't care if I get lost
The road goes ever on and on 'til Milford then it's through
My soul lies in New Zealand, Aotearoa, here's to you

Let's tip a glass to New Zealand, be one with the Southern Cross
Let's find a little two lane highway, who cares if we get lost
We'll stop at the local tavern, spend a night or maybe two
My soul lies in New Zealand, Aotearoa, here's to you
Let's go to New Zealand, me and you.
