Stan wrote the verses and melody and I added the bridge and the modulation to emphasize the passion that was still in his heart about a lost love and changed the key from D major to D minor to add to the yearning and sense of loss.

Lyrics

I'm still holding on to letting her go
The pain in my heart, she'll never know
How much I need her, I can't ever show
Still holding on to letting her go

She said, "I don't love you", I still don't know why
She called me to tell me her husband had just died
Guilt and regret for a sin we had to hide
She said, "But I don't love you", I still don't know why

I'm still holding on to letting her go
The pain in my heart, she'll never know
How much I need her, I can't ever show
Still holding on to letting her go

Got to move on but where do I start
Can't get beyond the hole in my heart
Our secret love affair has ripped me apart
Got to forget her but where do I start

I think about her day and night
I confess our affair wasn't right
I've got to get her out of my life

I'm still holding on to letting her go
The pain in my heart, she'll never know
How much I need her, I can't ever show
Still holding on to letting her go
Still holding on to letting her go
